True or false:In the ';old days';,if a man hit a woman, any men who saw this would start hitting the man?

Was this really the way British people were in the past?True or false:In the ';old days';,if a man hit a woman, any men who saw this would start hitting the man?
my husband told me once before i met him a man was yelling at and hit a woman in a parking lot and she was crying my husband had words with the guy and hit him he said the woman started yelling at and cursing my husband and was attending to her man. go figure.True or false:In the ';old days';,if a man hit a woman, any men who saw this would start hitting the man?
I wouldn't say 'hit the man' but onlookers would certainly stop him somehow using whatever force was required. ''Men'' who hit women are low life bullies and once they experience the power they hold over a woman by virtue of their strength revel in it. Trouble today is many deluded young women think abuse is a sign of affection and any intervention by an outsider to stop an assault results in the female joining forces with her attacker to batter the rescuer.

Cavemen are said to have banged their females over the head with a club as a sign of affection! Happy days.
I'm not British and I don't know about the old days, but I think that in current society, the observing men should step in and protect the woman. If that means by physical means then so be it, but they should first try to defuse the situation and get the woman to safety. I think this is true in any situation where a person is picking on another who is unable to defend themselves adequately against the offender.
During the Medieval Period if a man was to strike a woman, another man would either return the blow in kind (ie, man slapped a woman across the face, the other man slaps him across his face) or challenge the offender to a duel for the woman's honor.

In those days, women were to be put on a pedestal and treated with respect.
In America, also. It was considered coming to the aid of a woman in peril. I hate that we aren't allowed to do anything nowadays because the woman gets hurt even worse while waiting for someone to call the police and for the police to arrive. Back in ';the old days'; a man would step in and stop it and not be in trouble for it, saving the woman more pain and possibly her life.
Yes that is completely true. The majority of men would not stand by and watch such an event. Pity things seem to have changed in this instance.
True , men are much stronger so it's like a six foot body builder hitting a two year old , YOU DON'T DO IT and still shouldn't do now but men are afraid to step in now because of the conquencises
Yes Its True I saw a few Occasions Years Ago,[over 30years] but a Lot of it went on in the Home. Behind Closed Doors Many Women at that Time had Nowhere to turn to..............Somethings have got Better!
If a man hits a women then in my eyes he is not a man
even to day no man hits a women
I would think it's just how it is now.. some would and some wouldn't. This is a weird question... uhh.... and notlimited to british pple... uh, yeah.. weird question.
